  • Technical setup

Cubase or Cakewalk? That is the question? Well it's Cakewalk Sonar 6 Producer edition that's won out in the end. There's not much to choose between the two to be honest, but it was the dongle (or lack of) that swayed it and the great deal I got from Dolphin music. So we're both used to using Cubase and it's one week to go before we record and I've got Sonar installed! We must be mad... However, I have spent the last few weeks going through the Sonar Tutorials etc and getting used to it. In fact I think I prefer it now to Cubase. But I guess you would say that about something you've just bought!

So we're installed and ready to go. The laptop has 2Gb of RAM, Native Instruments Komplete 4, Sonar 6, Kore and a wireless keyboard with Sonar 6 stickers on it for ease of use! What more could we want. I said to Teresa if we can't sound good with all this stuff then we really are rubbish! But we have high hopes. So what's left on the techy side - mikes, guitars and sound treatment of the room. More on this soon.

  • Welcome to Deadwing music

This web site is dedicated to the creation of Deadwing music. The music and this blog is authored by Gav and Rich and we wanted to create this blog to leave a trail of the creative process that has gone into the making of the music. We used to be called New World (rather embarassingly) and our music (and lyrics) were very different to Deadwing. Deadwing marked a change in approach to both the music writing and recording and more of an edge to the lyric writing. A more sceptical edge rather than a naive slant which was the style of New World. I will post some recent e-mail exhanges on this blog.

We use e-mails to exchange thoughts which we hope gives Gav some creative kickstart to write some lyrics, ready for when we get together and record in March...
